Nicole Mitchell, the former first female president of Chicago’s Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), is an award-winning flutist, composer, poet and educator. Invoked by an Afrofuturist vision and contemporary African American culture, Mitchell works to raise respect and integrity for the improvised flute, delivering an eclectic and cutting edge contribution to the jazz legacy and redefining the possibilities of her beloved instrument.
