Microscopic Erotic
Who says nature is binary?
Sri Lankan multi-disciplinary artist Tehani Amarasuriya and Minneapolis-born, Rotterdam-based co-creater of a tattoo, textile, and photography studio - dedicated to providing gender affirming, body empowering, and collaborative experiences for queer people - Bel McLaughlin present the immersive performance Microscopic Erotics: a multi-media performance of microscopic visuals, movements, sounds, and puppets. They embody their dualism of juiciness and crustiness: the juicy—flowing, creative energy that encapsulates sensuality, fluidity of gender and sexuality, and erotic expression the crusty—a grounding, earthly protection that subverts and disrupts normalcy, rooted in political foundation and action.
This program is part of Queer Ecology x Gert Wessels. Queer ecology is a field that incorporates queer theory with ecology, environmentalism, social justice, and eco-feminism. It offers a lens to understand the fluidity and diversity in "human and non-human" realms, as well as fostering an inclusive relationship with nature that celebrates the broad spectrum and complexities in nature.
