What does tradition turn into when flung into the future? The answer may lie in Merope, the duo centered around singer and kanklės player Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė. Their music is dug out of ancient Lithuanian roots, but when this unearthing comes into contact with Belgian multi-instrumentalist Bert Cools’ guitars and electronics, something magical happens. This sense of spontaneity and playfulness is more present than ever on 'Vėjula', their new and most experimental full-length to date, which features collaborations with like-minded artists Shahzad Ismaily, Laraaji and Bill Frisell.
