Cellist and composer Mariel Roberts plays her instrument of choice like an actor performs a scene, completely engrossed and enraptured within the composition’s totality. As both solo performer and member of Mivos String Quartet, Wet Ink Ensemble, and Ensemble Signal, Roberts is acclaimed for channeling arresting moods such as claustrophobia and despair with her expressive playing. Her latest outing, 2017’s ‘Cartography,’ sounds like the fictional soundtrack of a suspense-filled thriller.
