King Ayisoba
Curated by aja monet
Supported by his band’s mesmerizing and infectious beats, high-energy dances and singing, King Ayisoba provides captivating stage performances that pulse straight to the heart with repetitive, trance-like qualities. Drawing from the musical traditions of the Frafra people of northern Ghana, he channels ancestral echoes through his remarkable vocals and range—shifting from deep, piercing nasal cries to soft high melodies. Often referred to as the “King of Kologo", the West African lute instrument that accompanies his performances, his debut album Modern Ghanians (2006) was an important breakthrough in Ghana and beyond, setting the start for his many international tours and collaborations.
