Fiftieth anniversaries call for spectacular celebrations, and that is just what Kahil El’Zabar’s Ethnic Heritage Ensemble are embarking on this year. To commemorate half a century of continuously shifting gears and tempos in the jazz-blues continuum, the band is embarking on a new world tour, which kicked off in North America in February in celebration of Black History Month. There is also new music still; ‘Open Me, A Higher Consciousness of Sound and Spirit’ arrived this spring. The birthday is theirs, but we’re the ones being treated to the chance of feeling their power live.
