Nyege Nyege presents African High Tempo
After having spent the past six years recording traditional music and soundscapes across Asia, Oceania, and Africa (as well as releasing them on his label Les Cartes Postales Sonores), Julien Hairon, better known as Judgitzu, has finally emerged on his own. 'Umeme / Kelele', his highly anticipated 2019 debut for Kampala's Nyege Nyege Tapes, draws inspiration from the domestic, hyperlocal sounds of Singeli while tipping towards minimalism. The fiery outcome has been soundtracking clubs, back-rooms, and festivals from Kampala to the world, promising an exciting future for Judgitzu's life on the deck.
