Jowee Omicil
Hannah Elsisi presents Chromesthesia
Musician, producer, composer, educator, speaker, entertainer, and overall self-described ‘musical polyglot’ Jowee Omicil has achieved prominence for blending African rhythms, Haitian spirituals, contemporary music, improvisation, hip-hop, and many more elements into a concoction that is unmistakably his own. Born in Montreal to Haitian parents, his father’s church profoundly impacted Omicil’s own musical journey. Omicil turns the stage into a realm of reverence, in which his mastery of various instruments, sonic sensibilities, and connection with the audience radiates through. The self-created ‘BasH!’ vibes are bound to stick around indefinitely.
British-Egyptian award-winning social and intellectual historian Hannah Elsisi presents Chromesthesia, a 13-hour durational performance. From Rio to Cairo, Miami to Kampala, Chromesthesia tracks Afro-diasporic rhythms and explores the history that undergirds Afro-descendant electronic music.
