Curated by Slauson Malone 1
Interdisciplinary artist Ebun Sodipo makes work for those who will come after; the Black trans people of the future. With themes surrounding gender, race, and sexuality, her practice, through fragmentation, collage, and fabulation, serves as a construction of a Black trans-feminine self after slavery and colonialism. Sodipo devises softer, novel ways of perceiving and speaking about the body, desire, archives, the past, and the present. She continuously asks herself and the audience where she begins and ends, and how one can communicate the simultaneity of trauma and joy of a history that hurts and heals.
