DJ Diaki
Nyege Nyege presents African High Tempo
DJ Diaki is Diaki Kone, radio animator and DJ in Sanakoroba, Mali. He is also one of the main figures behind Malian phenomenon 'Balani Show'. This high-energy genre of electronic music emerged in the nineties, with Seydou Bagayoko credited as one of its originators; it was from him Diaki learned. However, he quickly began reconstructing the genre, inspired by his village peers' desire for 'fast music'. With rapid-fire tempos and spiraling looping, DJ Diaki's 'Balani Shows' are his own. Le Guess Who? alumni DJ Marcelle has called him 'the discovery of the century'.
