Nyege Nyege Tapes present Hakuna Kulala Club Night
De Schuurman’s 2021 release – ‘Bubbling Inside’, a collaboration between Kampala-based label Nyege Nyege Tapes and Rotterdam’s platform Pantropical – centers around the genre of the same name. Bubbling was actually born from a mistake. In the 1980s, as techno and house were exploding in Europe, one DJ from Curacao accidentally dropped a dancehall track at 45RPM – bubbling house was then born. Now a crucial part of Holland’s Afro-diasporic club landscape, the genre’s evolution can be witnessed in real time listening to this Den Haag-based DJ’s ecstatic ouvre.
