In 2021, Maryland-born, New York-based artist Ian Mugerwa (AKA Dawuna)’s intricate R&B output started spreading like wildfire. This was upon the independent release of ‘Glass Lit Dream’ - later reissued via London label O____o?. At the time, The Guardian pinned him as the creator of one of the year’s ‘masterpiece albums’. A rare word-of-mouth success, Dawuna’s woozy record is making waves to this day. Last fall, he followed up with ‘EP 1’, an equivalently lush continuation.
