Dawuna

As Dawuna, multi-disciplinary artist Ian Mugerwa drops his first and last name in favor of his middle name to focus on music. Calling Prince and D’Angelo, but also Jim O’Rourke and George Gershwin to the drawing board, Dawuna later sets off to sketch his sound. And it worked; his debut long-play, 2021’s ‘Glass Lit Dream’, came as one of the year’s biggest surprises. This year, the musician continues the streak with ‘Southside Bottoms’, a mini-LP about the characters he grew up surrounded by in Southside Richmond. Dawuna’s place among today’s musical visionaries is firmly secured and reinforced through his live performances.
