This São Paulo-based horn driven instrumental group’s music draws a link between the past and the present; as written by PopMatters, the band balances a sense of modernity with musical influences that draw on the centuries-old West African-Caribbean connection ‘still so crucial to Brazilian musical aesthetics today’. However defined their musical mission is, the band still struggled to put together this year’s ‘Vapor’. Not only had the world changed, but they had too, as departures and arrivals triggered a reformed ensemble. Thankfully, they could still make magic. Now, Bixiga 70 is bringing their brand new album to the stage, their ‘natural habitat’.
