Via 2021’s ‘im hole’, her deconstructed club gem of a first album, aya made sure to make an impression on the hearing world. And, yes, aya is indeed a real person, stationed in the North of England, even if her alien sound would lead you to believe otherwise. In fact, she is much concerned with the topic of self, as her work concerns the transfigurative power of experience and memory on the physical body. Besides making music, aya co-runs the label YCO with BFTT and calls herself First Lady of the Bootleg. She also had a long-standing residency at NTS Radio, of which she was a part from 2017 to as recently as 2022.
