‘To carry you from melancholia to utopia’ was how NPR described the effect of Asher Gamedze’s 2020 bandleader debut ‘Dialectic Soul’. Behind the drum set, the Cape Town cultural worker channels both peace and turmoil - managing to be cerebral and elemental all at once. This spring, the drummer, who first rose to prominence playing alongside Angel Bat Dawid, released the conversational and playful ‘out side work | two duets’ with Xristian Espinoza and Alan Bishop.
