For singer, composer, poet, and scholar Amina Alaoui, theory is not emotionless. Quite the contrary; the world-renowned expert in Arabic-Andalusian lyrics breathes new melodic feeling into the art form through her emotional interpretations. Alaoui was born in Fez, Morocco, and grew up embraced by the arts; at six, she had become enthralled with Arab-Andalusian music. Since then, she has added to her creative arsenal various Mediterranean music styles, ranging from Persian contemporary cantata to Judeo-Spanish Sephardic music, expressing herself in Arabic, Persian, Spanish & Judeo-Spanish, Portuguese, and French. To hear Alaoui is to travel through time and space, body and soul.
