África Negra
In the early seventies, Horacio, a butcher by trade, and his guitarist friend Emidio Pontes decided to form África Negra; the rest is Sao Tome and Príncipe music history. Their unparalleled rhythmic blend, in which genres like rumba, soukous and high-life meet, is channeled through lead singer João Seria's voice, wholly blacked by the harmonizing rest. Impossible to resist, their sound quickly spilled over onto worldwide notoriety. Following a successful run and hiatus, the band reunited and has been touring again since 2012. Their energy, felt on this year's anthology 'Antologia Vol.1', remains unrivaled.
