Every week, we’ll bring you a must-hear track from the Le Guess Who? 2018 line-up. This week it is Japanese cult star Shintaro Sakamoto, a former member of legendary psychedelic band Yura Yura Teikoku, providing his rich and remarkable post-apocalyptic exotica.
In 'Let's Dance Raw', Sakamoto's musical approach as well as his love for playful exotica, groovy disco dub and airy jazz are on full display. With lyrics entirely in Japanese, one would barely notice he is singing mostly about the downfall of the human race. Shintaro himself says about the song: “Dancing is symbolic of our physicality. I think it’s possible to both dance by your own volition and to dance after you’re dead.”
