Musician, singer-songwriter and producer Bryce Cloghesy announced his second album as Military Genius: Scarred For Life, out on the 1st of November via Unheard of Hope. The record is a genre-flexing mix of bass-heavy R&B, spaced dub, and jazz that is newly grounded within a traditional rock framework and centered on lyricism. Together with the new announcement, Cloghesy shared the first single and self-directed music video for Darkest Hour.
The second album by Military Genius reflects a deeply solitary exploration of personal trauma, from initial fallout to eventual catharsis. The record's difficult themes are addressed honestly and passionately, resulting in a reflective album full of soul and positivity. Entirely written, recorded, engineered, and produced by Bryce Cloghesy, the songs on Scarred for Life have been hand-crafted by way of analog cassette, and they were painted with blemishes and artifacts, adding to the record's realism and personal character.
Military Genius will perform at Le Guess Who? 2024 on Saturday, 9 November as part of the program curated by Mabe Fratti. Also performing at the festival are a.o. Luz luz luz!, Concepción Huerta, Still House Plants and many more.
