For decades, Adrian Younge is a idiosyncratic force in the music world, a self-taught multi-instrumentalist and Emmy Award-winning composer whose artistry transcends boundaries and defies genres, bridging the worlds of soul, funk, and cinematic jazz. Recently, the musician and producer recorded a special session for KEXP.
Adrian Younge has been redefining contemporary music through his work in the recording studio Linear Labs, the cultural imprint of multimedia platform Jazz is Dead (JID) and his multifaceted music scores. Throughout his seminal discography, Younge’s profound connection to analog sound led his journey of music exploration bridging past and present.
He recently released Something About April III, an album with a heavy focus on Brazilian popular music for which Younge revisits the music of artists that he has loved, been thrilled and inspired by (such as João Donato, Marcos Valle, Caetono Veloso), and worked with (such as the late Tony Allen).
Adrian Younge performs at Le Guess Who? 2025 on Saturday, 8 November. Also performing at the festival are a.o. Tomoki Sanders, Rogê, Gary Bartz and NTU Troop, and many more.
