White Boy Scream
Friday
Curated by DARKSIDE
As White Boy Scream, composer and sound artist Micaela Tobin beckons her classically trained instrument - her voice - against ‘the confines of convention’. Her command over it allows her to employ it in all sorts of ways in order to achieve her mission; noise, drone, and opera coexist as territories Tobin is unafraid to explore. Latest album ‘BAKUNAWA’ doubles as a gesture of preservation, as the artist invokes the pre-colonial mythology of her Philippine ancestry, wildly pivoting between ‘sublimity, contemplation, and terror’ (The New Yorker). Ritual, communion, reverence, familiarity, singularity; White Boy Scream calls out to all at once.
