Palm Springs
Curated by Tropical Fuck Storm
Born out of a compulsion to write sparse, intimate songs, Palm Springs is the outsider-folk alter ego of Erica Dunn, named for her nervous affliction: sweaty hands. Separate from her work with other creative outputs (Tropical Fuck Storm, MOD CON, Fiancée, Harmony), this project inhabits a quieter, more interior space. Distinctive dark humor, melodic daydreaming and vivid lyrical imagery drive songs captured instinctively rather than perfected. The underscoring principles are to capture the fleeting moments of the tracks without much deliberation or affect: on records, wonky notes, chair creaks, and street noise, which all bring out the intimate and fragile essence of the songs.
Post-apocalyptic acid punk disco scuzzheads Tropical Fuck Storm return to Le Guess Who? for a guest curation that feels like a homecoming. When asked to select artists for this year's edition, they went, as they put it, "a little wild". They've curated a sonically diverse mix featuring longtime musical inspirations, friends and collaborators; artists that they've met on the road, and acts that they've been eager to see live.
