Maurice Louca Quartet
Hannah Elsisi presents Chromesthesia
Maurice Louca is one of the most talented names to have emerged from Egypt's thriving experimental arts scene. He is continuously exploring new avenues for his sound. A restless creator, Maurice Louca is not only a founding member of groups Lekhfa and Dwarfs of East Agouza, but also a celebrated solo performer. Last year’s ‘Moonshine’, recorded with the Elephantine band, is an ecstatic foray into his version of free jazz, infused with psychedelic rock and Egyptian shaabi, African and Yemeni folk traditions. For his Le Guess Who? performance as a quartet, he is joined by longtime collaborator Lebanese percussionist and drummer Khaled Yassine, Egyptian violinist Ayman Asfour and Italian double bassist Rosa Brunello.
British-Egyptian award-winning social and intellectual historian Hannah Elsisi presents Chromesthesia, a 13-hour durational performance. From Rio to Cairo, Miami to Kampala, Chromesthesia tracks Afro-diasporic rhythms and explores the history that undergirds Afro-descendant electronic music.
