Mai Mai Mai & Osama Abu Ali

Initiated during a residency at Radio Alhara’s Wonder Cabinet studio in Bethlehem, Palestine, this special collaboration brings together the electronic and research-based practice of Mai Mai Mai with flutist and yargul master Osama Abu Ali. From a family of renowned flute players in the Galilee region, Abu Ali trained from an early age, developing a distinctive voice on the yargul (a Levantine traditional double-piped reed instrument). Mai Mai Mai explores the haunted intersections of Mediterranean folklore, ritual and memory, blending archival material and field recordings with contemporary experimental music. In dialogue with Abu Ali’s breath-driven musical language, the project opens a space where sonic traditions are not preserved as static heritage but reactivated and transformed in real time, intertwining analog electronics, field textures and traditional wind instruments.
