Jota and Shekina present Tanda Panameña

Jota Ortiz is a collector, selector and musician from Panama. He has been roaming his hot and humid homeland for the past 10 years searching for lost gems on vinyl to preserve for future generations. He has produced Panamanian music shows for outlets such as Gladys Palmera, My Analog Journal, Radio Alhara and Le Mellotron. Other important works include curation, conceptualization and production of the “Panama Soul Gems” compilation LP for Record Store Day 2022 in tandem with local label Tamayo Records. Most recently, collaborated with Wax Poetics and the Names You Can Trust Label, where they have unearthed more interesting stories coming from the isthmus of Panama, which will soon be released.
The visual side of the performance is produced by Shekina - a Guatemalan-born street photographer and activist of Panamanian descent. A nomad upbringing trained her eye to capture the deepest emotions of social movements and the underground music scene. She has documented a variety of on and off stage performances, from world-class percussionist Ademir Berrocal to local folk singer Eddy Cárdenas and other popular dances from urban and rural communities of Panama.
