Grouper
An unpredictable and paradoxical experience, Grouper’s live show makes music feel elemental. It’s as if she’s forging through layers of noise and textural chaos to sculpt something hauntingly beautiful, singing enchanting melodies that feel almost forbidden to hear. Her music can have the staticky haze of drone music, as well as the intimacy of singer-songwriters and the almost oracular quality of great ambient music. The lo-fi songwriter and audio collagist can move from a near-inaudible murmur to a primal call echoing from a distant hillside, as she questions the difference between electronic and acoustic instrumentation, found and intentional sounds.
