Gareth Liddiard’s work with Tropical Fuck Storm and The Drones thrives on feral fuzz and scorched art-punk catharsis. While his solo music is a more direct, lyrical affair stripped back to splintered acoustic strums, arpeggios and minimal riffs. On his only studio album, Strange Tourist (2010), tightrope walkers, down-and-outers, suicidal Japanese salarymen and suburban radicals come to live on caustic folk songs steeped in dark humor and apocalyptic unease. Unplugged, his songwriting excels through mercurial melodies, vivid storytelling and lyrical detail that reveal an abrasive, profound vision of the world.
Post-apocalyptic acid punk disco scuzzheads Tropical Fuck Storm return to Le Guess Who? for a guest curation that feels like a homecoming. When asked to select artists for this year's edition, they went, as they put it, "a little wild". They've curated a sonically diverse mix featuring longtime musical inspirations, friends and collaborators; artists that they've met on the road, and acts that they've been eager to see live.
