COSMOS Embassy Film: Sharjah, UAE
In partnership with Sharjah Art Foundation
Located in Sharjah’s historic Art and Heritage Areas, Sharjah Art Foundation activities and events take place throughout the year and include exhibitions featuring the work of Arab and international artists, performances, music, film screenings and artist talks, as well as extensive art education programmes for children, adults and families. The Foundation hosts the annual March Meeting and, every two years, presents the Sharjah Biennial.
This documentary follows a close-knit diverse group of musicians who make up varying alternative scenes within the music community of Sharjah and the United Arab Emirates. As society in the UAE comprises millions of people with diverse backgrounds, this documentary will highlight what it means to be both a local and a migrant artist. The artists will reflect on the heritages and communities they come from, the locales they inhabit, where they see themselves within the larger music cosmos, and how all are interconnected and interdependent. This will culminate in a seamless series of recorded performances by the individual acts and them coming together in an improvised finale bringing together their interests, influences, and ultimately, their own unique sounds.
The artists involved in the project include WYWY, Safiya ‘SAF’ Alblooshi, and Hasan Hujairi, among other guests.
