HULUBALANG is the latest project from inventive electronic producer, sound artist, label founder and DJ Kasimyn, known as one-half of Gabber Modus Operandi. Driven by the urge to experiment, the project draws from local sound traditions, often using archival samples, and a broad knowledge of global club music. It’s a personal and conceptual journey into Indonesia’s war archives, where ghostly samples, harsh noise, and morphing rhythms center the overlooked figures of colonial history. A cathartic act of remembrance and resistance, The Quietus lauded his album BUNYI BUNYI TUMBAL as “ambitious in every sense; technically masterful, conceptually complex, and emotionally potent”.
