Edna Martinez presents PICÓ
At Le Guess Who? 2025, guest curator Edna Martinez offers a sonic journey into the electrifying world of PICÓ – the sound system culture of Colombia’s Caribbean coast, born from 1950s street parties. More than just a musical style, Picó is an art form, and a vital expression of identity, resistance, and community that revives and sustains Colombian, Caribbean and African musical traditions. Martinez is kicking off her curation with a talk - involving other DJs - and the screening of a short documentary about La Saramuya. This first Colombian-built picó to reach Greece, will also make its way to Utrecht for Le Guess Who?, bringing the vibrant spirit of Barranquilla's carnival and 'verbena' street parties along with it.
