How to Make Noise: Tactics of Resistance Around the World
Sound & Culture Summit
From sit-ins and disruptive street actions to social media campaigns: we are living in an era of mass protest. As we reclaim our rights, demand justice and catalyse change, all actions are aimed at one purpose: to be heard.
For the first half of this talk we listen to the experiences of several collectives about how they have “made noise” in order to challenge oppressive systems and resist corrupt politics. Joining this talk are Alena Verbitskaya & Berk Uslu (IDGK, Istanbul), Anton Nazarko (Some People, Kharkiv), Vitalii Nemchenko (20ft Radio, Kyiv), Sarjon Azouz (Blastingdienst, NL) and Students for Palestine (NL).
For the second half, we sit around the table with all the collectives and we invite you to join us as we discuss, share experiences and dive into tactics and tools of protest. In an effort to strengthen resistance efforts across the globe, the session will be facilitated by Sham Jaff along with visual artist La Nonette, who will, as the conversation happens, build a visual document of all of the shared information. The intention is to create a practical and creative resource that can be shared widely amongst the many grassroots, artists and organisers serving as a guide for future actions and providing useful insights to implement during moments of protest and resistance.
Moderator: Sham Jaff & La Nonette
Speakers: Alena Verbitskaya & Berk Uslu, Vitalii Nemchenko, Anton Nazarko, Sarjon Azouz
