Slauson Malone 1 shares new single 'Voyager'

Slauson Malone 1 is the musical project and performance piece of artist Jasper Marsalis. With this project he explores the intersections of popular music and performance art. Following two critically acclaimed prior releases — 2019’s A Quiet Farwell, 2016-2018 (Crater Speak) and 2020’s Vergangenheitsbewältigung (Crater Speak), he now shares his new single Voyager.

Voyager chronicles Slauson Malone 1’s move from New York to Los Angeles in a period of doubt and aimlessness following the release of his 2019 album. It comes paired with a music video directed by Ryosuke Tanzania, which speaks to overwhelming feelings of anxiety and melancholy experienced by Marsalis, and by extension, a desire for a new sense of belonging.

“I wanted to write something in the state of being sick of being sick, annoyed with being annoyed,” Marsalis says of the single. “This verse documents my first steps of refusing the indulgence of trauma and grief. With each movement, the feeling returns but different, weirder.” - Slauson Malone 1

For Le Guess Who? 2023, Slauson Malone 1, both performer and curator, is joined by cellist Nicky Wetherell. Together, they'll bring the musician's surreal sound collages to life.
